PUBLICATION / SHOULDN’T WE RATHER BE COLLECTING BUTTERFLIES? / MORAVIAN GALLERY IN BRNO

This is a book of memories written by the art collector and lover Richard Adam. The book is being released by the Moravian Gallery in Brno, mapping over 40 years of Adam’s gradual understanding and collecting of modern Czech art, above all painting.

The book moves from humble beginnings and total ignorance to an “all encompassing” view into the most up to date trends in painting. This collection covers the generations of the 80’s and 90’s, the 2000’s and 2010’s with an extensive record of paintings representing these eras. One of the most significant connections is the one between Richard Adam and the Brno businessman and art lover Miroslav Lekeš. Thanks to their collaboration, Adam was able to develop his interest in collecting beyond the borders of the republic and onto Slovakia, Austria and especially Germany.

From 2006 to the end of 2015 Adam also led the Brno Wannieck/Adam Gallery and created an important place in the city for presenting the most recent from the world of painting. The exhibition in the atrium of the Moravian Gallery however, presents a different collection, canvases and portraits created by artists to honor collectors and supporters of contemporary art. These works are evaluated in the book not only by Richard Adam, but also all of the enthusiasts without which the art scene would be hard to imagine.
